Raising Awareness and Supporting Brain Health

Each September, the global campaign for World Alzheimer’s Month—led by Alzheimer’s Disease International—urges communities everywhere to raise awareness, dispel stigma, and lift up those affected by dementia. This year’s theme, Brain Health for All, underscores the importance of prevention, early detection, and compassionate care.

At The Cypress of Raleigh, a beautiful gated Life Plan Community nestled on 44 acres of landscaped grounds dotted with lakes, walking paths, and cascading waterfalls, we echo this theme through strengthened support and proactive wellbeing for our Members.

Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is the leading cause of dementia globally, gradually impairing memory, reasoning, and daily functioning. Though a cure remains elusive, advances in research along with early detection, supportive care, and a nurturing environment can improve quality of life. At The Cypress, our commitment to health extends across independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, and rehabilitation—delivered through both our on‑site Rosewood Health Center and in-home care options.

How Members Can Support Brain Health During World Alzheimer’s Month

  • Educate and Elevate Understanding - Use your voice to share factual information about Alzheimer’s—through social media, conversations, or written articles—and help dismantle stigma. Include #WorldAlzheimersMonth to spread the message further.
  • Engage in Community Events - Attend local awareness events like walks, forums, or educational gatherings to support those affected and help foster community solidarity.
  • Support Caregivers and Families - Small acts like offering a meal, lending an ear, or providing a moment of relief can have a profound impact on families and caregivers.
  • Practice Brain‑Healthy Living - Daily wellness at The Cypress includes fitness programs like tai chi, water aerobics, peaceful walks, nutritious dining, and a full calendar of social and learning activities—each contributing to cognitive and emotional wellbeing.
  • Partner with Your Health and Wellness Navigators - Our compassionate Health and Wellness Navigators gently guide each Member toward personalized support, offering resources, advocacy, and continuity across care levels, whether at home, in the hospital, or within the Rosewood Health Center.
  • Advocate for Community Impact - Encourage policies and programs that enhance support for Alzheimer’s patients and their families—because change starts with us.
