Honoring Senior Veterans at The Cypress of Raleigh

The Legacy of Our Senior Veterans

Veterans Day is an opportunity to honor the men and women who've served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Here at The Cypress of Raleigh, we pay special tribute to our veterans—Members and staff who have carried a lifetime of service, sacrifice, and resilience, shaping the freedoms we cherish today.

Celebrating Veterans Day in Raleigh

Raleigh hosts a range of meaningful commemorations each year. Veterans Day parades and ceremonies occur in nearby towns such as Apex, Cary, and Garner. Members and their families might consider attending these regional observances to connect with community and show support.

Local Resources to Support Veterans

Raleigh Vet Center offers free, confidential counseling for veterans and families coping with PTSD, loss, or trauma. Services include individual and group therapy, trauma support, and referral assistance.

NC4Vets is an expansive online network offering tailored support—from benefits and healthcare to housing and employment resources—designed to meet the diverse needs of North Carolina veterans and their families.

Programs like HUD‑VASH help veterans experiencing housing insecurity by offering rental assistance and case management in the Raleigh area.

Additionally, the North Carolina Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) advocates for programs and benefits at the state level, including housing aid, financial support, and community outreach.

Ways to Honor Senior Veterans at The Cypress

  • Host or Attend Ceremonies - Consider organizing an in-community gathering to honor senior veterans, complete with readings, flag presentation, or a moment of silence. Encourage Members to attend local observances in nearby towns.
  • Share and Preserve Their Stories - Invite veteran Members to share their experiences—perhaps through recorded interviews, a community newsletter, or social gatherings honoring their legacy.
  • Connect Them with Support Services - Ensure veteran Members know about Raleigh Vet Center’s counseling, HUD‑VASH housing assistance, NC4Vets referrals, and DMVA programs—especially as they navigate aging, health, or financial concerns.
  • Engage Through Volunteering - Encourage volunteering with Honor Flight Network, which brings senior veterans to war memorials, or with local veteran-focused nonprofits like American Legion, DAV, and VFW.
  • Celebrate Their Ongoing Contributions - Recognize that many senior veterans continue to serve—through mentorship, volunteer roles, or civic engagement. Acknowledge how they continue to enrich both The Cypress community and greater Raleigh.
